Academic Eligibility
Playing any athletic sport at UFCA is a privilege and not a right. It is our belief that a student
must earn and maintain this privilege in order for them to participate on a UFCA athletic team. The
academic eligibility policy is intended to serve as a motivation for students to earn the very best
grades they are capable of rather than a punishment for poor grades. A student’s eligibility shall
be based on his/her most recent report card or progress report.
-
If the student has a grade point average below 2.0 or has one or more grades of "F" on
either the report card or progress report, then they become ineligible to play athletics at
UFCA. The effective date of this ineligibility shall be: midnight Friday of the week report
cards or progress reports are issued. The student will then be ineligible to play from midnight
Friday until midnight Friday of the week a new report card, progress report, or communication
report is issued.
-
Only report cards and progress reports can cause a student to become ineligible. A
communication report is issued two weeks following the progress report and may return them
to eligibility status if they meet the academic guidelines (above 2.0 average and no grades
of “F”). A communication report cannot cause them to become ineligible.
-
With written permission from the parents (and placed on file with the Athletic Director), the
student may participate in practices with the team while they are academically ineligible
(unless disciplinary action has been taken which would prohibit same).
-
If the student is placed on academic ineligibility due to their report card, and they remain
academically ineligible at progress report time, they are therefore ineligible to play sports
for the remainder of the quarter.
Behavior Eligibility
It is expected that athletes will maintain a good standard of behavior wherever they are. They need
to remember that they are representatives of their team, their school, and most importantly of Christ.
Students must attend the entire school day in order to play in a scheduled game that afternoon. Any
exception must go through the Athletic Director.
Students who are under disciplinary actions in school (in-school suspension, out-of-school
suspension, or expulsion) will be considered ineligible on the same or the next game day.
Any student who is suspended either in school or out will automatically be required to miss the
same number of games as the number of days of the suspension.
Students who fail to obey team rules are also subject to being declared ineligible for one or more
games, depending on the seriousness of the violation. If these types of violations are serious
enough the coach has the option of removing that player from the team.
